Why should I believe that the Bible is Accurate?
There are many angles from which we could deal with this question, and to cover them all would require a book .So for the purpose of our present study we will concentrate on only one angle, and only in brief, just to establish that we can be very confident in the accuracy of the bible. We will examine the role of prophecy in confirming that this book can be relied on with complete confidence.
Anyone can write a book about past events, and as long as he deals fairly with the information available to him, can give an accurate account. Only God can tell us events in the future as if they had already happened, because God knows all things completely and nothing is hidden from Him, that has happened or will happen. The bible is such a book. Let us look at just three subjects that the bible has spoken about in great detail long before they came to pass:
1. The coming of the Jewish Messiah Jesus Christ: All of the old testament points to the coming Messiah but we will for the sake of brevity look at a few specific ones. About 700BC Micah foretold that Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. The Jewish leaders were so sure of this that they used it to give instructions to the wise men who came to visit the baby Jesus, recorded in Matthew's gospel ch2 v4-6. The book of Isaiah ch. 53, written 750 BC describes the death of Christ in great detail, only God could have given such detail in advance.
2. The nation of Israel existing at the present time is a testimony to how God knows all things, and all things happen according to His will. In 70 AD the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and took away the survivors into slavery. Jesus had foretold this in Luke's gospel ch.19 v 41-44. But the bible always said that Israel would be at the centre of events at the end of the world -Zech ch.8,Dan ch.9,Ezek ch36&37,just to name a few. Until 1948 there was no nation and as everyone knows Hitler did all in his power to destroy the Jews during World War 2,but out of the holocaust a nation was born before our eyes, and the pieces begin to fall into place for the fulfillment of everything God has ordained.
3. The Bible tells us that at the end of time there would be a one world ruler and a system of marking people for the purpose of buying and selling, and that it would be possible for all people to see an event happening in Jerusalem. Look up Rev. Ch.13 v7& 8, Rev.Ch.13 v16 & 17, Rev. Ch11 v9. I don't have to go into any detail to show that the technology is now available and the political machinery is in place for all this to happen.
God said in Isaiah Ch46 v9-10: "Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying , 'My council shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure'."
